"Financial Advice"

We don’t give financial advice, other than the advice that you should consult a professional. That said, we do tell financial stories.

So, what are you going to do with those millions that you made in your photography business? Well first you should reinvest in your business. Then save for that rainy day. After that you could buy stocks. But picking stocks is almost a full time job, so some people hire professional investment planners or buy mutual funds. But which funds do you buy? Some people subscribe to expensive mutual fund investment newsletters (or read them in the library). Well, which newsletters are worthwhile and which are not any better than investing in an index fund of all stocks? Well, there is a newsletter that rates all the newsletters: The Hulbert Financial Digest.

So to make a long story short, they follow both mutual fund and stock picking newsletters and rate them over 5 and up to 25 years. In fewer than 5 years it turns out that few fund letters stay on top, but over 5 years you can see a pattern.

It turns out that the best mutual fund newsletter over the past 5 years stopped being published over 2 years ago. What does that say about the others, and stock picking in general? Read all about it in their commentary at: The value of doing nothing - Commentary: Closed End Country Fund Report shows profitability of inaction
